A statement piece for those who appreciate where craft meets mathematics.
Inspired by the compound of five octahedra; a geometric form first described by mathematician Edmund Hess in 1876, this handcrafted pendant or side lamp transforms any room into something extraordinary. The intricate stellated shape casts mesmerising shadows that shift and dance across your walls as the light changes.
Each lamp is made by hand in the Forest of Dean. Precision-modelled junctions are 3D printed from recycled plastic, engineered to hold every wooden strut at exactly the right angle. The wood is measured and cut by hand, then carefully assembled piece by piece. An Edison-style bulb and sustainable hemp-wrapped cord complete the piece.
Every frāctus I is laser engraved with its own edition number – a unique sculptural light that’s truly yours.
This lamp comes with white junctions and birch struts as standard. Want a different combination? Order a custom colourway here.

It started with winter. Long, dark evenings and a desire to feel cosy led to an obsession with how light moves through geometric forms – the way a single bulb can cast infinite patterns when given the right shape to shine through.
The maker behind frāctus formō spends his winters exploring where mathematics meets craft. Each lamp is designed, modelled, and assembled by hand at home in the Forest of Dean. It’s slow work, deliberate work – one edition at a time.
But there’s a bigger dream: a 5m × 5m × 5m sculptural light installation. Something you could stand inside. Something that transforms an entire space into geometry and glow. Every lamp sold brings that vision a little closer.
